Katharina Kiefert (b. 1989, Bremen, Germany)
Lives and works in Brooklyn, NY

Katharina Kiefert is a German artist whose photographic practice explores the porous boundaries between body, environment, and memory. Working primarily with analog and lens-based media, Kiefert stages intimate gestures of disappearance, presence, and transformation—often using her own body as a site of inquiry. Light, shadow, and texture become collaborators in a process that drift between performance and self-portraiture, interior and exterior, tenderness and estrangement.

Drawing from feminist and ecological frameworks, her images dwell in quiet thresholds: limbs tangled in soil, skin abstracted to landscape, silhouettes dissolving into projected foliage. She uses slowness, repetition, and somatic attention to question how we inhabit time, grief, and intimacy.

Kiefert received her MFA in Photography from Pratt Institute in 2022 and a BA in Fine Art from Columbia College Chicago in 2016. Her work has been exhibited at Pratt Manhattan Gallery, Gala Art Center, Little Saint Gallery, MATTE HQ, and on Governor’s Island, among others.
